The Angel

The kingdom of heaven quaked with the news of God's newest creation. It wasn't the news that he had created something that cause such a response, but the declaration that this greatest achievement. There were those whom more or less agreed with God's sentiments, but there were others--like Askari--who found such a claim impossible to believe. It wasn't that Askari didn't marvel at their creation. He just didn't see the hype behind man. It came as no surprise when God asked angels to take up the task of watching over his newest creation while they were on earth. There no shortage of volunteers as  angels flocked towards the honor. Askari ended up being one of them. It, however, wasn't for the honor or even privilege that was the movation behind his decision but rather a simple dare from one of his brothers-in-arms. God made it clear to those that had taken up the mantle of watcher that they were only to observe not interfer unless it was absolutely necessary. It was an easy enough mission, or so they thought.

Askari was especially certain he had this mission in the bag, but it is impossible to watch man day in and day out and not fall in love with them. Yes, they were flawed but that what made them impossibly beautiful. They had not intended to break God's order, but they could not imagine that man had been placed upon the earth for the sole purpose of screaming towards heavens in some vain hope that someone might hear them. Belieiving that God would want his greatest creation to know how loved they were, the watcher took it upon themselves to answer man's prayers. Eventually, man discovered whom had been answering their prayers. Each angel were revealed in different ways, but the end result was the same. Unlike some of his fellow angels, Askari made his presence known to man on his own accord. He just didn't reveal he had been the one answering their prayers. He walked among them, lived among them, and shared their griefs and joys.

It is unclear when exactly they realized he had been the one answering their prayers, but one day they started building shines and leavings offerings for him. Askari knew he should discourage them. He should point them in the direction of their true creator or at very least return to heaven like some of his fellow angels had down when they had realized they were walking down a dangerous path. He did none of these things. He told himself it was because God would have called them back to heaven if he believed they were going down the wrong path, but deep down he knew he would remain even if God himself demanded his return. It wasn't long before God did just that. God was not pleased that man were worshiping others as they did him. He apologized to his angels for his foolishness. He was wrong in having them watch over their charges indefinitely. Of course, they would come to love man unconditionally and because of that love they would do anything--including going against orders--to ease their sufferings.

He believed their removal would benefit man as well, because it would allow them to see there was only one being worthy of their praise and devotion. His plan might have worked if it wasn't for the fact that Askari and the others refused. This only reinforced God's belief that his watchers needed to return to heaven to heal, but still Askari and his fellow refused. Outraged, God told them that if they continued to disobey him that he would cast them out of heaven. He believed even if they didn't give into his threat that without access to God's divine powers that they wouldn't be able to answers man's prayers and man would realize them for the frauds they were. Much to God's ire, Askari and the others did not give into his threat, and he had no choice but to cast them from heaven. Things, however, did not go according to God's plan.

There was more power in belief than any of them realized. Askari and his fellow watchers whom had been cast out of heaven had truly become gods simply because man believed them to be. They might have suspected before, but now they knew for certain. God knowing if he wanted man to realize that he was the only one worthy of their worship had to do everything within his powers to convince them that he was the only one deserving of such devotion. This proved harder said than done. The more God tried to discourage Askari and the others the more man worshipped them. It soon became clear that God's best course of action was to sit back and wait for man to come to the correct conclusion, which they did eventually. Some believed that once man stopped worshipping them as deities that they would revert back to what they had been before. They did not, and while it is highly believed their own belief plays a large part in this, it is, also, widely accepted that sometimes things can't go back to what they were no matter how much the pendulum swings the other way.

They were now left with the questions what they were going to do now. Some continued to be worshipped by pagan cults. Others, like Askari, choose to become wanderers. There were a few whom refused to accept the new world order--some eventually declared war on God. A few even asked Askari to join in their efforts, but he refused. It was the love he felt for man that had him refuse God's orders all those eons ago and not a need to be worshipped. He didn't need their love in return nor did he need to attempt to disprove another's love for them. He was content to walk among them. He did just that. Answering their prayers the way he did since the beginning. He took a number of lovers throughout this time, and there is no doubt within his mind that he might have sired many children, however, he never encountered any of them until Aimery, who was his grandson rather than his son. He had been born to one of Askari's daughters, but she was no longer of this world. It is unclear exactly what happened, but what is known is that it appears not all his powers can be inherited--particularly his godhood.

He formed a tight bond with his grandson, and found himself returning to visit Aimery often. His grandson has provided him a place to reside within every place of residence he does not have set aside solely for any lovers he might have. He even set aside a few places for Askari to use for any lovers he might wish to keep. For many years, Aimery was the only product of his seed that he encountered that was until he met her--his soulmate. There was no doubt within his mind that what she was. He felt drawn to her in ways he had never felt before. He took her as his lover. More than that, he made her his wife and for some time they lived happily together. It wasn't long before she was with child. They were both overjoyed by this news, but it quickly became clear the pregnancy was hard on his beloved. Worse, there was nothing he could do to make it easier upon her. He watched  as day by day the life was zapped away from her.

He attempted to persuaded her to end the pregnancy. While he was overjoyed with the news of their bundle of joy, he did not want to lose her, but she refused and she made him promise that whatever happened to her that he would always be there to protect their unborn child. The day of his son's birth was devastating not only because his wife clung to life long enough to give birth to their son, but it became clear that their newborn was going to follow his mother into the grave. Remembering his promise and perhaps because his own love for his son, Askari decided to merge his own soul with that of his child. It was the only way he could think of saving his precious boy. The merger is not complete. Rather it should be said. the angel's turned deities conciousness is still within there and it takes control from time to time. Mostly, when the son find himself in dangerous situations he can't escape from.

The Progeny

Askari was raised by his maternal grandparents. His mother had died giving birth to him, and his father...well...no one knows where he is. The only thing that is known was Askari was left upon his grandparents' porch with a note explaining who he was, what happened to his mother and pleading with her parents to take care of him. There was no questions within his grandparents mind that they would do this. They had loved their daughter beyond words and there was no doubt within their mind they would feel the same way about her son. Anyone whom saw Askari with his grandparents could attest to how much they adored him. He was their pride and joy. Some claimed more so than his mother ever been. His grandparents never kept the truth from him. They answered any question he had about his mother. The only thing they couldn't answer were questions he had about his father. but they made it clear they would do everything within their powers to help find the answers he wanted. There is no doubt within his mind they will keep their promise--especially considering they are old money with lots of connections.

So, far these connections have not opened the right down, but his grandparents have faith that they eventually will. However, they are eager to find answers as well not because they are curious about the man their daughter had ran off with, but because they believe knowing these answers might explain some things about their grandson. Askari have talents that humans simply don't possess, and while they have found tutors to help him develop these talents it is clear that they don't have all the answers. This alone wouldn't be cause for alarm, but there is the fact that Askari personality seem to change from time to time. Some claim he is possessed, and encourage his grandparents to perform an exorcism upon him, but they don't share this opinion. They realize this other personna only emerges whenever Askari is in serious trouble or becomes overwhelming distraught. More than that a demon wouldn't relinquish control.

Askari tells everyone that he doesn't remember anything that happens when this other personna takes over, but the truth is he recalls more than he claims. He just don't remember enough. It's like waking from a dream that immediately slips from the mind and leaves only jagged pieces behind. There is, also, the fact he is certain he recalls memories from a time before his birth or conception. They are just too scattered for him to be certain. He never expected to encounter another with powers like his, but he did just that when he came upon Sofian in the third grade. They became fast friends. It wasn't because he found someone more or less like him, but there is no doubt that was what pushed them together in the first place. While Askari came from a world of wealth and priviledge. Sofian was from one of poverty. Neither care about the other's finances, and they have develop a tight bond. In fact, they consider each other brothers.

Like Askari, the only thing Sofian knows about his father is the powers he had inherited from him.  Any attempts to gain any answers from his mother is met with resistence if not outright violence. Askari has made it clear many times how he feels about Sofian's mothers and offered his best friend permanant residence with him. Askari's grandparents, whom have come to regard Sofian as their second grandson, encourage him to stay as well. While Sofian does spend a great deal at the Vrioni's estate, he has not completely cut ties with his mother. As much as Askari believes he is being foolish, he does understand. Now seniors in highschool the two of them are still clueless about their father's identities. They sometimes joke that they have the same father and that is why they are so close. Their souls know each other. Many at school believe they are dating due to how affection they are with each other, but those closest to them know this isn't the case. Their love for each other knows no bonds, but their relationship is completely platonic.
